omorka | The Situation Improves (Slightly) (Reply)

After long hours by some poor phone company lineperson (whom we saw qorking on the pedesal at 6:30 pm yesterday), we now have phone service to the new place. Sort of. Out of something like ten phone jacks in the apartment, we get signal at three of them, two of which are in the master bedroom. The last one is one of the two in the dining room, to which we have hooked up Green Goddess (my old lime iMac) as a stopgap measure until we can either get the phone dudes to fix the remaining phone jacks or get our DSL line back and set the other two computers up for wireless. This is mildly annoying, partly because it's hard to type on the floor and partly because the keyboard for GG is none too good.

Ah, well. Any connectivity is better than none. And the locals can call us at our land line again, which is no small thing (and we can call out without relying on the cells - mine is even flakier in this building than it was in the previous one).

I will try and read back through the posts I've missed, but that's going to be something of a Herculean task by dial-up, I suspect.
