The creepy right-wingers are complaining that a major food corporation has gone to the trouble of getting foods that were vegetarian to begin with (and, I'm pretty sure, already labeled as pareve) officially listed as halal. You know, the only good news in that sentence is that the corporate big-money wing of the right is clearly getting along less and less well with the screeching Christianist culture-warrior wing.

---

Speaking of culture warriors, Jay Smooth took on Christine O'Donnell's ad. Of course, for me, the big issue is that she starts off by saying "I'm not a witch," and then just a few phrases later, pops out with "I'm you." Well, which is it, woman? Can't be both.

---

I'm not going to link to any of the wingnuts trying to spin the reactions of compassionate people who realized that homophobic bullying really does cause damage as some sort of anti-Christian oppression, because these people make me want to spit. Seriously, if either your political philosophy or your religion lead you to side with the bullies - possibly even worse, with bullies who use the Internet for evil - they you need a better philosophy/religion.

---

Bryan Fischer needs a better religion. I didn't want to link to that either - I don't particularly want to give him the validation of the page hits - but it's pretty educational. This is what the toxic combination of right-wing politics and fundamentalism have brought us: a guy who so radically misunderstands the message of Yeheshua ben Miriam he thinks letting a house burn to the ground, with pets inside, over a $75 fee is not only the Randian thing to do, but the Christian one. I mean, it wasn't shit like this that led me to leave Christianity, but I can't say people like this haven't occasionally made me glad for the decision.

And that's not fair to people who follow Christ and still know what compassion is. You guys have my sympathy - at least people like Fischer aren't fouling my house.
