Sucking Other Cultures' Entertainment Through a Straw

I am enjoying Fushigi Yugi immensely, but it's entirely despite the main character rather than due to her. Dang, is she incompetent. I really hope no one really expects the audience to identify with her, because if they do, I pity the intended audience. Still, interesting storyline.

I've gotten through the eighth manga in the CardCaptor Sakura double-series, and my sense that I prefer anime continuity strengthens with each volume. There are a few tidbits from the manga that make the universe make more sense, but for the most part it just feels much more compressed without any compensating payoff. And I don't like the attempted explanation for why Kero-chan didn't teach Sakura more about the cards - it doesn't make it actually make any more sense.

On the other hand, I attempted to turn our Monster (who's Chinese) on to the Ender's series when he wandered into the bookstore on our lunch break at the Twain tournament (we went to a mall to eat because it was the closest place that had multiple fast-food places close together), so we'll see if that takes.
