Just got back from grocery shopping. We've been using Middle Market primarily, with stops at Generic National Chain Grocery and Partial Edibles to pick up things we can't get there or that are awfully expensive to get there.

I got meat there, this time, because we've been awful about getting out of the house to go to GNCG, and the quality is better at MM. But oh, it's expensive! Nearly twice what it is at a 'regular' grocery. But, you know, that's probably how it's supposed to be. Feeding the grain to a steer/chicken/turkey/pig/lamb and then eating it is far more costly in terms of protein and land use than baking the grain into bread and eating it. It's only natural that the meat would be this expensive. That's probably close to its true cost, as opposed to the artificially-lowered factory farm cost that we'd be paying at GNCG. I guess I might as well get used to it. (I sort of wish I didn't have to wait at the butcher counter there, but that's a social issue, not a political/biological one.)

Besides, I know what grass-fed well-exercised hormone-free chicken and beef taste like, because I had them as a child. (There are benefits to living on 40 acres, despite it stunting one's social growth.) And while the MM stuff doesn't taste quite like that, it's certainly a lot closer than the mainstream grocery store versions, probably because the less-processed beef really was grass-fed instead of solely grain-fed for at least part of its lifetime.

--

The sky tonight was gorgeous. Mostly clear, with a few clouds to east and west that caught the light like citrine and sunstone at sunset, and then the twilight western-sky glow with hints of deep warm blue and strange oceanic green climbing subtly up into the dark. You can see stars tonight, although not many.

This sort of sky is meant for rambling conversations under. I'm supposed to be walking along a beach, or the bayou, or failing that traipsing about UH or a park, having a deep and meaningful conversation with someone. I wish I knew who, or how to get there when they're there. The sky is waiting . . .

I forgot that the Spouse plays randomly when annoyed. I wish he didn't get annoyed when my character does something in-character isn't beneficial to him. Everyone in the party is relatively mercenary, including his character, and even more so in-character than out, I am Not His Momma.
