1. Total number of books owned?

Oh, dear gods. *looks around frantically, grabs the pocket calculator* Once again, we have the issue of which books are mine, and which are the Spouses, and should I just claim half the total collection, and do graphic novels and manga count? and what about cookbooks?

But, um, there are probably somewhere in the vicinity of 2000 books in the apartment, not counting manga. Possibly more if I'm underestimating the number that are in banker's boxes rather than shelved.

2. The last book I bought?

Umm . . . damn, I should know this. It was at our last trip to Borders, wasn't it? Gaah. I don't remember. I'm going to guess and say it was Lakoff's Women, Fire, and Other Dangerous Things. The last book I bought online was The Necronomicon Files, which I am still reading.

3. The last book I read?

The last book I finished was When Jesus Became God, by Richard Reubenstein. As always, I have probably a dozen or so that I've begun and not yet finished, but am still actively working on piecemeal.

4. 5 books that mean a lot to me?

Jennifer, Hecate, MacBeth, William McKinley, and Me, Elizabeth, Elaine L. Konigsberg
A Wrinkle In Time and the Murray/O'Keefe sequels, Madeline L'Engle
Drawing Down the Moon, Margot Adler
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and its first two sequels, Douglas Adams
The Norton Anthology of English Literature in its various editions and formats
Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card

. . . I can't trim that list down any farther. I know that's still one too many, but I can't cut anything from it. And I haven't added Spiral Dance by Starhawk, or any collections of poetry, or my old Physics or Calculus textbooks, or anything by Ivars Peterson, or the Jhereg series, or anything by Carol Christ or Mary Daly or the Farrars or Valiente, or the Harry Potter books, or the textbooks I currently teach out of, or LotR, or the old AD&D hardbacks back before they made all the spines orange, or Spider Robinson, or Larry Niven, or Ursula LeGuin, or Robert Asprin, or Susie Bright, or Carol Queen, or Florence King, or Martin Gardner, or . . . or . . . or . . .

5. Tag 5 people and have them fill this out on their LJs

I don't remember the book version swinging through these folks:

If you've done it, shame me properly and I'll tag someone else . . .
