Some Sketchy Ideas for my next GURPS game
Mar. 17th, 2004 01:31 amFirst of all - oh, this could get expensive. I really can't afford to replace an entire shelf of books. Fortunately, it won't happen all at once.
Second, I think I know which campaign I want to run next. Unless there is an overwhelming vote by those who read this and would be eligible to play due to location for space opera, I think I'll focus my efforts on the near-modern dark-espionage-with touches-of-horror game that's been rattling around in my head since OwlCon. Hopefully, I'll have a 'hook' ready by the end of this week, which I'll post here and e-mail to those I think might be interested.
In the meantime, here's some of the really basic stuff I've worked out:
- the game will take place in Houston and the surrounding areas, including Galveston and Austin, and possibly spreading all the way to New Orleans and El Paso at times; it will not be a world-spanning adventure unless the plot takes an unexpected twist
- if Max Headroom takes place twenty minutes into the future, this is ten minutes. Tech will be teetering on the verge of TL8 in most areas
- in keeping with the dark/horror aspect, the game will assume that we get 4 more years of the Bush economy and social repression; locally, Elyse Lanier is the mayor of Houston
- the role of corporations is enhanced, but we're not at cyberpunk-standard levels of corporate control yet
- the PCs will be hired by a smaller corporation as a Sneakers-type investigative tiger team
- while I'm not quite going for gritty realism, this will be less cinematic than the last few games I've run; given that even in my normal games you really don't want to be in combat, this means that if you're stupid, you will die
- starting character value will be the usual 100 points
Anyone have any questions, comment or e-mail me.
