Brief Update:
Oct. 25th, 2003 08:08 pmThe ADHD Kid has reappeared after missing over a week of school. He had a catastrophic side-effect reaction (involving Parkinsons-like symptoms and seizures) from the combination of antidepressants and anti-ADHD meds he's been on. Ugh. However, since it was for medical reasons, they'll let him make the absences up by way of Saturday school.
I caught the current round of Creeping Crud, either from the night I almost froze my butt off at CMA or from one of my students who came down with it during class - probably the latter. I noticed my throat was a little sore Thursday evening, and was worried. Friday, I got up feeling cruddy, and realized I probably was coming down with something, but decided it was probably just a cold and didn't investigate any farther. Over the course of the day, I got worse and worse; by 3rd period, I couldn't look directly into the overhead without getting dizzy, my joints were aching, my tonsils were swelling, and I was tripping over tiny imperfections in the carpet (even more than I usually do, I mean). I sent 4th period to lunch 5 minutes early so I could hit the nurse's office and get my temperature taken. 99.1, which is non-trivially high for me (my normal temp at that point in my cycle is 98.3) but not high enough for her to send me home. Fortunately, I had 5th period off, as it was a B-day; I called the Spouse to come take me home, chugged some Gatorade to stave off dehydration, and slept for about 19 hours, waking up only occasionally to rearrange the covers because I was either burning or freezing. I woke up at about 10:30 this morning with a fever of 100.2, which is not that high for normal people, but I never run above 100 unless I'm really sick. I've been chugging acetaminophen and a cold thing I sent the Spouse out to buy that has pseudephedrine and guaifenesin in it, which has made life barely tolerable. With luck, I'll be down all weekend but presentable on Monday; it would be a bad thing if I missed school, especially as Monday is an A-day and I don't currently have an Emergency Lesson Plan made for the AP Stats kids.
On the bright side, the big box of gem chips and findings I ordered this week to make the necklaces I've been planning since the Katy workshop (having found it pretty much useless, I spent a large part of my time designing variations on the double-strand of amethyst the presenter was wearing) arrived today. I ordered it on Tuesday; I consider this excellent service - and it'll give me something to do tomorrow other than feel sick and sorry for myself. On the silly side, the urge to dump them all on the floor in a pile and roll on them was almost overwhelming. DM brings out my Cat side; gemstones bring out my Dragon . . .
