1. why would you be a goat?

2. in your scholarly opinion, should ketchup be considered a vegetable?

3. wouldn't it be cool to throw a cell phone under the wheels of a full
bus and watch what happens? why or why not?

4. what part of dorm life do you miss the most?

5. what is the hardest part about watching younger siblings come into
their own?

1) The goat is the ultimate symbol of independence and intelligence producing rebellion. Sheep are stupid, collective, and mostly obedient - very easily herded. Herding goats is hard. They go where they want; they're smart enough to avoid obstacles, predators, and dead ends on their own; they're agile and sure-footed; and they don't follow the rest of the herd, because they know they'll get a larger share of the forage if they go it alone. If you put one goat with a herd of sheep, they'll all follow the goat, because it knows where it's going and they don't.

2) No. Ketchup should be considered a fruit butter, just like apple butter or peach butter. After all, they're produced the same way: by taking the fruit, cutting it up, removing the seeds and skins, and cooking it down to a paste with lots of sugar and a shot of vinegar. This would make it part of the "jams and spreads" family.

3) Not really. It would be far more interesting to take it apart and build a remote-controlled robot that would spin and recite Red vs. Blue quotes whenever you called its number. I hate wasting technology. And, the bus drive would have to get out and write up an incident report, and all those people on the bus would be late to wherever they're going.

4) I kinda miss being a wing senator. MSMS had a kick-ass and relatively effective student government for a high school, at least when I was there. I utterly failed to get involved in student government at Rice, and I sort of feel bad about that. Other than that, I really don't miss the communal living parts of either MSMS or Rice much at all; what I miss is the people and the academic life.

5) In my case, mostly it's not being there. I didn't get to see any of my three siblings graduate from high school, in the first case because I couldn't afford the ticket home, and in the last two cases because I couldn't justify taking a day off of work. Both of my brothers went through a really difficult adjustment to college, and I can't help thinking that my experience could have helped, if I'd been there and they'd been willing to listen.
