Stolen from Siddhartha Vicious, from the Straight Dope Message boards:

Premise: Someone in Hollywood had the bright idea that your life would make a fantastic movie. They've written the script, casted it with all the hottest young (or old, depending on your age) stars. You've whined that you've had no control over the film at all, and the Hollywood muckety-mucks decide to let you choose a song to correspond with each scene. What songs would you pick?

Here are some suggested scenes. Feel free to add or subtract scenes to fit your own life (or dramatization thereof). And don't worry about copyrights. That's what the studio execs have lawyers for.

1) Romantic interlude
1a) Sex Scene
2) Car Chase (what a life you've led!)
3) Stirring oratory at the end of the film
4) Pensive moment while you ponder the deeper meaning of life while staring at the tide coming in
5) That moment in the film when you're parked in front of your ex-love's house wondering where everything went wrong, sobbing gently, and holding a single rose, just to see the cold-hearted jerk walk out with another person on their arm (Even though in real-life, you ended up in custody for stalking, the movie plays out differently). Don't they even care?
6) Action scene (kicking ass, taking names, that sort of thing)
7) Scene in which you help the juvenile delinquent crippled orphans fix up the Orphanarium, thus teaching the kids the value of teamwork, and teaching you to believe in hope again, or some such tripe.

So here's my list:

1) Romantic interlude: "Sooner or Later," English Beat. (Yes, I know it's been used in a movie already. So have all the good songs.)

1a) Sex Scene: "Shaking the Tree," Peter Gabriel.

2) Car Chase: well, as I don't drive, we'll have to change this to a Horseback Chase, a la Arwen in _LOTR: FOTR_. "Far and Away," from Enya's _Watermark_.

3) Stirring Oratory: "Sooner or Later," reprised; this time the Harvey Danger version from the _200 Cigarettes_ soundtrack.

4) Pensive Moment: "We Do Not Die," Velvet Hammer, from the _Storybook_ album (second choice: "Four Directions," from the same album)

5) Stalking Scene: again, this gets changed quite a bit, as we're both still in high school, I don't drive (I'm crying under his dorm room window and incidentally irritating the heck out of his roommate), and I don't see him with someone else on his arm until our 10 year reunion. So: "Crush Story," Too Much Joy.

6) Action Scene: "Wherever I May Roam," Metallica, the Black Album.

7) Uplifting Teamwork Scene: "What You Do With What You've Got," ideally as performed by Ceili's Muse early in the Mel period. However, I don't think that exists in recording anywhere, and I'm not as fond of the version on _Circles of Stone_. (Second choice: "Help Save the Youth of America," Billy Bragg, _Talking With the Taxman About Poetry_.)
