Throwing Discs

omorkaAbout a dozen songs are missing from my iTunes. They aren't anywhere on the external hard drive.
They were all added between Jan. 15 and Feb. 8 of this year. However, there are things added later in the day on Feb. 8 that are still present.
Running the disc utility has done exactly Jack and Shit.
Two of the affected artists (Andrew Lloyd Weber - yeah, I know; shut up, I have good memories associated with Phantom anyway) and Loreena McKennitt) I can just re-rip. (Most of the McKennitt is actually still there; that's the one thing the disc utility found, although it's put it in an odd folder.) It turns out that the Spouse has the John Mayer CD the song I lost came from; I guess his picking up completely random CDs at Semi-Cost just because they're only three bucks has come in handy. (You can't imagine how grudging an admission that is . . . .) And the Jason Mraz song is in the Spouse's iTunes, so I can get that back. But I'm going to have to either re-purchase five songs from iTunes or get the CDs and rip them; they're just gone. (The awful thing was that I know three of them were on the iShuffle before I re-synched it, and I could just kick myself for letting it re-sync.)
And this is totally going to screw up my play counts. Damnit.
I already wasn't feeling well (probably the result of eating too much fried stuff - I should put the deep fryer away for a few days) and didn't make it to dinner with the MIL. This just ices the cake quite well. Grr. At least the Spouse thought to sort the folder by "date modified;" otherwise there wouldn't be any pattern at all.

In good news, my parents did actually send me a birthday card this year, and it arrived today. We could have saved the postage if they'd just handed it to me at the airport, but enh.
