There's a pair of cardinals taking a birdbath in the driveway puddle. A male in full red plumage, and a female.

I never see cardinals here in Houston! Reminds me of back East. *sigh*

these cardinals have a nest on the trumpet vine covered roof of the old garage. They seem to stay out of Bartleby's reach, and judging by the displays of his recent kills, he has switched from birds and rats to exclusively squirrels.

I do so love watching cardinals, but I'm afraid to put out sunflower seeds for them, thanks to my dedicated predator cat. sigh

I can recall seeing both cardinals and blue jays in Houston in my youth, but neither in large numbers.

I've seen blue jays often enough to not miss them so much, although not as often as I would back home. I suspect the pigeons beat them up or something. :)
