Opening Theme

Having had far too many people complain that I don't have a personal website, I think this will do for the moment. If you want an introduction, see my personal info. For the moment, this is where I am :

There are three more weeks left until I have to worry about school beginning. Of course, I haven't done any of my prep-work other than the Rice Project. There'll be time enough, although probably not enough to do everything I want to get done. I'm definitely excited about incorporating the CBR into my classroom, though. Every math teacher should have one.

JG, AK, and little FK are in town for a week. DG will be here until about the end of August. I'm happy to have more of a social life, and thrilled to see them again. I'm also realizing how much I miss being able to have the kinds of conversations I have with that group the rest of the year. J's having second thoughts about living in LA and working for his particular bosses, but probably not looking at moving back here; I can only hope that he ends up finding what he's looking for somewhere in Texas, where we can at least visit more often.

I've started going to BiNet meetings again, a habit I hope to get back into permanently. I've been sporadic about making Poly Houston meetings, but getting better. I am deeply grateful to both communities, both for the opportunity to discuss sexuality topics in RL instead of online, and for their support for me as a half-out person.

I haven't been going to Pagan events other than CUUPs recently, which is unfortunately unavoidable - I've got far too much going on right now. Hopefully, I'll start being able to make at least the PMSes during the school year this year, but I think the PNOs are just not going to be doable.

I'm about a third of the way through doing my own GURPS/Talislanta conversion. The Spouse and I made characters for a Mage game with M.W. and J.T.; I hope we get to start before the school year begins! That I flaked on our usual Friday dinner this past week and we will probably be in Galveston this Friday doesn't help that, either.

The Rice School Mathematics Project is still charging me; I only hope I end up in the classroom this year with that enthusiasm still intact. One of the totally cool people I met through the Rice Project is why I flaked on dinner last Friday - he invited me to a dinner of the Houston Vegetarian Society. The food was pretty good, if you like vegetarian Indian food, except for a salad that tasted like grass. The speaker left something to be desired; if you're going to talk about magick, in my opinion, you should go ahead and talk about magick, and not have to couch it in pseudo-scientific terms. I'm still sort of hoping to hear from some of the other totally cool Rice Project people by e-mail.

I'm back on the Theology_Electric mailing list, although just for the summer. Same old irascible atheist lechers (I gotta love 'em, they flatter me so) and weird half-liberal Christians, with the addition of a new fundamentalist. For a fundie, he's been pretty respectful of my Paganism, so I can't complain too much.

Tomorrow is JG's birthday. I haven't gotten him anything cool yet. I don't even know what to get him. Ah, well.

This should do for the moment. Good night, everybody.
