omorka: (Baking Cookies)
Well, I ended up getting a whole turkey after all - Middle Market didn't have any turkey breasts when I got there. Fortunately, the very helpful (and oddly flirtatious) guy in the poultry department went and looked for a smallish one for me, but larger than the eight-pound one in the chiller unit (I didn't know they killed 'em young enough to deliver an eight-pounder to the store). I ended up with one just under thirteen pounds. after careful consideration, I think I'm going to have to roast this one conventionally, like an exceptionally large chicken, rather than use my mother's overnight very-low-temperature roast - I don't know exactly what the timing would be for one this small. Ah, well. Learn something new every year. It's sitting in the small cooler under ice, since it was never going to fit in the fridge.

Have finished the cranberry-orange salsa, and just put up one batch of homemade vanilla ice cream in the freezer to ripen. Will be starting on the apple and chocolate pies as soon as the dishes currently in the dishwasher are done. And that will probably be it for the evening, since I'll be having to get up by nine to start the turkey and the bread.

Tomorrow, the turkey, the bread, and the two types of potatoes, and then the pumpkin pie will go into the oven when the turkey comes out. Depending on the general pie level at mid-afternoon, I may make a John Tyler pie just before Movie Night starts. If we're swimming in pie, then I'll probably wait until Saturday or Sunday for that one. If we're running short, then I'll go ahead and whip it up then.
