I'm Back

Brief notes on the gathering:

Had a good time, despite having only incidental amounts of sex (or alcohol, for that matter, although I rarely have more than a cider or two anyway).
Only 4 people showed up to my workshop; I think I'm going to have to make it an afternoon one to get the newbies to show up. However, someone else did a workshop on hand chants, which I enjoyed a lot. (More on that general subject on a limited distribution later.)
Spouse managed to not blow up at the gathering itself.
Attended three rituals, all good, one of which was patched together by the participants when the officiator managed to get injured and couldn't make it. At the first ritual, got two very good one-card readings (in fact, got one superb one from someone using a Thoth deck - the reader pulled things out of the card I never would have seen there) and a so-so spirit reading. The last ritual was absolutely gorgeous - I'm usually not much for fire-based ritual, but this was utterly stirring.
DM didn't show.
Got to hang out with some cool folks from Dallas, including one member of the old HSPVA crowd. Also interacted more with the camp group, although they're still heartier partiers than I'm comfortable with.
[livejournal.com profile] theoldone and [livejournal.com profile] greeneyedpagan are True Royalty, and everyone should worship at their feet for all the hard work they did this weekend.

On the down side, we blew two tires (one I had noticed before we left was low, but the Spouse didn't think it was worth looking at; the other was the spare) on the way home. Spouse then decided to make the MIL get us a new tire and rim and come out to meet us (about five miles on the wrong side of Sealy), rather than try and get local help. However, after a frustrating two hours by the side of the road and an unfortunate encounter with some fire ants, we did manage to get home safely.

[livejournal.com profile] theoldone most certainly is royalty. I, however, only serve the King and the Queen [livejournal.com profile] maeven

I am glad that you had a good time. I'm sorry more folks didn't come to your meeting, but at least we had fun playing with string. :)

My ankle is much better, but this morning, my car wouldn't start, and so now I'm dealing with a dead battery issue.

Why do these things always happen when you are unemployed, hmmmm?

Having done the two blow outs on one trip thing, I feel your pain. We rode home in a wrecker after an officer's meeting back in the spring. We were stranded just East of Columbus, I had bronchitis, and it sucked a lot. At least MIL could rescue you. It doesn't change the suckage, however.

So how bad is the ankle? Go ahead, make me feel bad. I can take it.

It's much better, really.
Sunday was pretty rough, all things considered, but ice, elevation, the ace bandage your beautiful lady supplied, and reiki (plus advil) seemed to take care of it. Now, it only hurts when I step funny, which unfortunately I do regularly, obviously causing the problem in the first place.
My klutziness, not your presence, was the real culprit here.

Hand chants . . . . . i am intrigued . . .

Short description: adapted American Sign Language done along with/to the rhythm of the chant. The elemental ones are really easy and make good ritual gesture. The person who did the workshop is fluent in ASL and works as a teacher/translator for the Deaf.

Long description later . . . probably around the weekend.

Cool. I'd thought about that . . . . we have 2 deaf kids on campus & we have the handy-dandy ASL dictionary (in some vain attempt to be able to talk to these kids . . . . ), so I've been looking at some of the signs for that very reason . . . I'm interested in hearing more!!
